Austen Chu Image
Austen Chu

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Shanghai, Austen has loved watches since kindergarten. Founding @horoloupe on Instagram in 2016 his page soon evolved into a community of 100,000+. In 2019, he became the first collector to collaborate with Audemars Piguet for a commercial watch release – the Royal Oak China Edition. Frustrated at a lack of safe, secure, and transparent watch platforms as a young watch enthusiast, Austen co-founded Wristcheck in 2020 with Sean. Invited to be the youngest jury member of the 2021 GPHG Awards, Austen was also appointed a committee member of the Swiss Institute that same year. In 2023, he was chosen to join the committee for the LVMH Watch Prize and the FHH Cultural Council, and in the same year, Forbes 30 under 30.

Prior to Wristcheck, Sean spent seven years working at Hypebeast, ultimately serving as the Senior Vice President and spearheading the company's E-Commerce and Retail Arm, HBX.com. Sean helped build, manage and operate HBX from a start-up operation to an internationally influential platform that carried over 200 brands including Nike, Off-White, Prada, and more. Sean also played an important role in helping Hypebeast IPO, joining the GEM board in 2016 and later, the main board in 2019. During his time at Hypebeast, it was clear to Sean that watches had progressed from a niche that only a small percentage of the Hypebeast community were interested in, to something much greater. And when Sean and Austen met in 2019, the rest was history.
